A “Woolly Cloud” on Legs
What can I say about “E. D.” the Devon and Cornwall Longwool Ram? He just makes me smile! Seeing E. D. and his flock in the fields of the South Hams in Devon, where he lives, is like seeing fluffy white clouds come to earth.Read more...
All that can be seen are these fluffy white masses of wool. No legs, and only an occasional head visible. I don’t think there is a sheep breed in the world that compare for sheer volume of wool on one animal. E. D. holds the record for Champion Fleece at the last ever Royal Show, with a fleece weighing a staggering 37.5lbs (17.25kg). I knew the moment I saw him that I simply had to sculpt him – he is so, ‘Sculptural’, with all those ringlets and curls, and his strong, characterful face (and such a cute bottom!) The resulting bronze remains one of my all-time favourites.
